How can I get more motivation to follow my fitness plan?

My 2010 resolution was to get more definition in my abs. So I’ve been doing planks, jackknives, situps, etc. However, now were 3 weeks in, and I’ve woken up and realized the truth: the only thing motivating me to do this is to look good. It might seem vain, but everytime I scan a pornstar, I think to myself, "I want to look like that", and that’s pretty much the only reason that I exercise.

Apart from that, what is the motivation? Because frankly, strength training really sucks and I’m thinking about stopping. I have noticed some difference since January 1st, but apart from looking attractive, what is the reason that anyone should do this?

Your core supports your entire body. So, wanting to have a nice strong core isn’t vain. It’s healthy. A weak core makes the body weak. You will have a bad back, no balance, etc. So keep on working on the abs for health reasons.

If you are getting tired of working out, get a workout partner. The only thing I have found that helps me stay motivated is accountability. I know someone else is depending on me to be there with them / for them. Since obtaining a great workout partner who also needs the accountability factor to stay motivated, I have lost inches, decreased body fat, lost weight, and my stamina has increased tremendously.

So, keep that core strong for good over all health. And maybe accountability would keep you motivated.

Good luck! Stay strong!!

I think if you are already reasonably fit for your height, and working out is not interesting to you anymore.. then you should do other hobbies. Like team sports or something.

Find a workout partner or buddy to help you stick to your commitment. Consider working out for your health as well as your looks. Motivation is an internal drive to accomplish something - consider rewarding yourself for getting in shape and staying healthy physically and mentally.
