you need to have your body fat % checked by a personal trainer, it's very easy to look at the whale creatures created by Mcdonalds and Co and consider yourself lean, but unless you are at least 10% body fat, you won't see much abdominal definition. 

There is no set amount of time as to how long this will take, as I said it depends on how low your body fat is. Once you have ascertained this, you need to lower your carb intake, cut out all sugary crap. Complex carbs, (brown rice etc) plenty of green veggies, plenty of protein, a good multi vitamin, 3 litres of water daily.

As for exercise, you can perform ab crunches all day every day, but unless you are lean enough, noone will see those abs. When training to get lean, the best exercise programme is total body training, ie training your whole body with weights in one workout.
